Drama Class At LJA Part 2

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to tell you about one of the Art classes you can take at Le Jardin Academy. There are four Art classes you can choose from; Arts (Visual), band, chorus, and drama. Today I'll be telling you about Drama class. Drama class is a very fun and interesting class. The teacher of this class is Mr. Gaines. He is very funny and very good at what he does. The class takes place in the Harold Theatre. You get to play a lot of awesome games, and learn about very interesting things about acting, staging, and much more. There are also many plays that you need to go to for homework. You also get to work in groups and even brainstorm and write your own play! Drama class has a very fun learning experience. I highly recommend this Art to LJA students.

You can read part 1 on our blog about the experience of taking Chorus at LJA.

Local Competitions

Are you a kid who lives in Hawaii that wants to enter singing competitions? Then you are in luck! This post will be all about local competitions in Hawaii, how to win, and a couple of tips that will make you more remembered in competitions. There are many singing competitions that you can enter, but there aren't that much singing competitions in Hawaii as there are in the mainland. Singing competitions are all meant for good experiences and to make you more of an experienced musician. One thing you really need to remember is that you're most likely not to win every competition you enter. If you lose you don't need to be a poor sport. You need to take feedback that people give you. I am sure that almost every musician has been knocked down and lost singing competitions before they got to where they are. Now some of these competition require for you to audition and make it to even be a contestant in the main competition. Usually you audition in front of some sort of judges or peers. Those people will be your audience and your judge in the audition. Some important things you need to know when you audition is to have a great attitude, pick the right song, show good presence, and try your best to not show your nerves. These things will increase your chances of making it. Now if you make it to the competition, this is where the real work comes in. You need to find the right song choice for you and the audience. What's usually recommended for singing competitions are songs that show range and what you can do. This will impress the judges a lot. You should also have great posture and stage presence. This will show everyone that you are confident and not a weak performer. This will help you place higher in competitions. Now, I am going to show you a few competitions that I've entered and had a lot of fun in.

The first competition that I'm going to show you is called "Brown Bags To Stardom". It's a local competition for school kids from elementary, middle school, and high school. It is also open for dancers and bands as well. I've been in this competition before and placed second in the boys category, so I have experience in what the competition is like. To first be applicable to be in this competition, you need to have passing grades. Then you enter your school competition for Brown Bags To Stardom. If your school doesn't have a competition, then you need to enter with a video of you singing. If you make get chosen to compete in the state competition, then you'll be able to perform on stage to maybe place.

The next competition I'm going to tell you about is Hawaii Stars. This competition is for kids and teenagers. You don't need to audition to get in, but there are multiple rounds that you need to pass, to actually make it on TV. There are many kids, but there will only be five per category that make it to the finals, and one winner per category. This song all relies on song choice because that's the song that you will need to sing every round you're in. There are also judges that give you feedback about your whole performance.

Introduction to Copic Markers

Hello again it's Kyla. Today I wanted to do a review on Copic markers. Copic markers are an alcohol based marker that are used by car designers, fashion designers, manga artists, animators, and even product designers. Copics, because they are alcohol based, blend very easily with each other. Copics also come in different types of nibs and barrel designs the different types of copics are called: Copic Original, Copic Caio, Copic Sketch (my favorite), and Copic Wide. The Original copic marker, also known as the Classic, has a square shaped barrel with the color and number of the marker on the cap. The Original is also dual ended with one side having a bullet nib and the other having the standard chisel nib. The Original comes in 214 colors and can be riffled with the Various Ink refills up to 9 times. The Copic Original is ideal for more detail work or quick sketches because it does not have a good nib for blending but the bullet nib is great for detail work. The Copic Caio has a circular shaped barrel and a supper brush nib and a standard chisel nib. The Caio marker only has the

color on the cap and the number on the side. The Caio comes in 180 colors and one Various Ink refill can refill your marker up to 15 times. The Copic company recommends this to beginner copic users because it has less ink in it and it is cheaper. The Caios are great for blending because of their super brush nib. The Copic Sketches are my personal favorite and the ones I have the most of they have an oval shaped barrel and the supper brush nib and a standard chisel nib. The color and number of the marker is on the cap. The Sketch marker comes in all 358 copic colors and can be refilled up to 12 times with on Various Ink refill. Copic Sketches are the most popular copic marker and are great for blending. Copic Wides have a very skinny long oval shaped barrel with the color and number of the marker on the cap. Wides have only one nib which is the 3/4 inch chisel nib. Wides come in only 36 colors and can be refilled up to 7 times with one Various Ink refill. Various Ink refill bottles come with 25cc of ink in each bottle. Copics cost 5-8 dollars each I know they are supper expensive but they are worth it. I own around 50 colors and they are great. Another great feature about them is that you can replace the nibs the supper brush nib, standard chisel nib, the bullet nib, even the giant chisel nib. Copics can come in sets of 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, and 72. When you are buying Copic I find that it is cheaper to buy them individually. Since I mostly draw people I would start with skin tones and blush colors then I would get my favorite colors and expand my collection from there. I store my copics in pencil cups near their color groups. I could make more posts on how the numbers work and other copic products and how to blend but I need to stop this post somewhere.
This is my own original art that I did with copics The idea was that she was reaching for the new year.
Another one of my original pieces done by copics of Little Red Riding Hood.
