Big Competitions In Ice Skating!
Post of the day has glide on in! Today I'll be talking about competitions I've competed in, so enjoy! As you may have heard millions and millions of times that I'm a figure skater so I decided to change this up a little! Instead of talking on and on about how I became a skater or my favorite moves and how to become more flexible... all of that boring stuff, sadly:( Now I'm going to talk about what t's like to be a competitor and some competitions I've been in.
Like most competitors I enjoy seeing new faces, watching people perform, trading pins etc. Most of all I love going out there, skating my best leaving a positive feeling like I've worked hard, I'm doing great, and most of all I'm having fun! In my opinion I think one of the best part of big competitions is how you can see people from all around the world and see how there techniques and styles in skating. I also think once you start trading pins it gives you an idea of what there country is like which is quite interesting. I think in competitions it's important to have fun and be proud because if you don't enjoy competitions then why do them and waste your time when you could be doing something fun?
Yet like there are things I don't like about competitions in ice skating such as it can be stressful, parents and skaters can become to competitive, and this is for female skaters. As a female ice skater, when ever you compete with a boy, the boy automatically wins no matter if the girl had a better program. This is because there's less male skaters. Yet I don't really think they thought this whole idea out between girls and boys because what if all the girls quitted because they were losing then they would have more boys and encourage girls to skate so it would be an off and on pattern. It seems like most people hate the stress in comps because you have to wear nice outfits get your hair done which requires special hair spray. Make up is a big part of stress make up takes up a lot of time to make it look good and match your skin tone and character. Also that the warm ups are only five minutes which is so little amount of time just for getting all your jumps and spins and rehearsing certain parts. You also basically have to show up a few hours before your competition and most competitions get behind schedule.
Overall basically how competitions work is you show up two or three hours before sometimes they have special sessions just for warm ups, pretty awesome huh? LOL Anyways You can sign up for those but, if they don't have the sessions you can do a little bit of off ice stretches and warm ups. Next you put your outfit/costume then have your coach put your make up on which can take 10 mins to 30 mins. For example my sister was the mad hatter from Alice and Wonderland and her make up took about 30 mins to one hour. When you finish with that you have wait till it's your turn but, you have to make sure to put your skates about 10 minutes rarely before since they usually run behind. Luckily you can socialize or trade pins! Then your coach talks to you and wishes you luck five minutes before your turn. Then you skate your number, wait for your results, watch other people till you get board. Pick up your medal and leave.
Thank you for reading Maybe this helped you get rid of nervousness if you haven't competied!

Tips On How to Balance On Ice Skates Next Trip to the Rink! FOR BEGINNERS
Hello it's Lily Z again today I will be posting on tips to balance on skates to decrease your falls! I hope this paper helps you. So..... lets get gliding.
1. What many people do wrong when they skate is there arms. Arms is major thing in order to skate properly and successfully. Plenty of people wiggle there arms all over the place like tornadoes and trust me that throws you off balance and can cause you to get all twisted up. because as soon as an arm starts acting tornado your feet follow and you body goes every which way causing you to do one of those awful falls because when you skate your arms lead the direction and control. So when you skate try to keep your arms out and your flat at least as a beginner. Then as you advance you could do all these artistic or dramatic arms. Sometimes it helps to keep them in front. Also you want relaxed shoulders. Here's a quick sketch to give an idea how your arms should look:
2. Feet can sometimes be a problem especially because if you don't have boots of your own the rentals can be worn out, not enough thickness though if your just skating in circles no jumps no spins you wouldn't have to worry to much about that. or it could just badly made. But that's not the only problem fitting could be to because people just get skates that are to big and assume it would work but then it's hard to skate in and your feet start hurting because when there to big your feet will be leaning into the inside edge. Although it could also mean you didn't tie your skates tight enough.
Working with feet on ice like I said earlier if you can keep your arms still and control that makes it a whole lot easier. I suggest star with marches but try not to keep your feet so wide apart or not to close that your skates are glued because if you keep your feet as if there glued sometimes the hooks on your boots can get caught or your laces which could also cause you to fall in a uncomfortable position. Trust me it happened to me when I was just learning sometimes it still happens to me while I go into a jump or spin. Take your time as well don't try to rust especially if it' s your first few times on the ice because I see many people do that and start becoming the tornado and falls smack on their but or chest. Once you feel more comfortable with that you can try stroking. Start y creating a t position with your feet then with the foot facing horizontally take a small push and try to extend. Do the same for the other foot back and forth then repeat the pattern.

Everything About My Ice skating Life and How I Stayed into the Ssport
Hello It's Lily Z again! This time I'm really excited to share my passion and life as an ice skater! It started when I was about four years old as my family was scoping out different activities do do on the weekends for fun, exercise, and to keep us busy. I started off in kokokahi gymnastics every Saturday morning but, unfortunately we quit a year later because one my sisters and I weren't really that interested also because my one of my sisters kept laughing the whole entire class. Later we found hula! I took hula every Sunday, it was such a hassle for us and, we were required to go to many of these hula shows and competitions that it just became to much. Also my dad thought we weren't really learning anything and it was a waste of time and it was. Next we found Ice Skating! Well we kind of popped in because we actually knew about ice skating lessons ever since my oldest sister went public skating with Auntie Donna and she loved so we started signing up. So my dad and my sister started in a beginner class about beta. Sadly my dad quit because he kept falling but it's hard sport so I can't blame him at all. A year later my other sister and I started in tots which we learned how to do swizzles, forward wiggles, and marching. After a couple years I was stuck in Alpha for about 1-2 years because my left leg use to be week so I had trouble balancing on it But, I never knew I had a week leg until this sport appeared in my life because one thing I never realized the truth about when I was adapted I was very sick and malnourished about 17.5 pounds at age two because the orphanage didn't take very good care of me I was dirty, and skin and bone, this lead to a feeding tube for a few years (please don't judge) and me having trouble walking up stairs and hills for awhile. I was scared of everything loud noises and people. This is probably because I was abused in the orphanage. Over time my father would always use help practice walking up the stairs and our drive way. I couldn't start walking up these things until around five. All these things affected me academic wise as well I started school later then usual at age four first year of pre school I started in a public school when everybody already could speak hundreds of words I could only speak thirty words. We deiced to transfer to LJA because it would be better for me also because the people told my mom that I would never be able to talk well like I would be sent to a special school boy was my mom at them. When it came to crossovers from movement it was very hard for me to balance I used to always stop then crossover from a stand still. This is when my family decided to start private lessons, we started with Coach Connie! We started Coach Connie was always a nice, patient, and fun to be with. Luckily this was huge bonus for all of even though it took many blocks I never gave up on this sport because I knew even if took another year or so I could get a crossover over another one. My parents always remind how important it is to try our best because if you never try you'll never be able to reach your goals in life. This encouragement made me want to keep trying until I got a crossover then finally got crossovers one public skate it felt so accomplishing it's like being one of those Olympic champions! My dad saw me doing crossovers just like everybody else from the bleachers he smiled at me as if he was saying "I knew you could do it. This is the reason we stayed in ice skating because you stayed committed to this." This naturallymade my oldest sister get into the sport ever since then she loved it and she still does. After that huge pause in skating I started leveling up so quick. After a few years I met another Coach Robyn which my sisters had a while before me. She was very helpful towards building me into a skater. A couple years later I wasn't able to take from my Connie because I passed her level. I was sad to have to lose her as a coach but today we like to talk about skating or other. This leads to today. Now I enjoy jumping and spinning mostly spinning. Anyway my favorite spins are the sit spin, and pancake and my favorite jump is split jump.
An extra thing I enjoy is skating in LA with professional coaches like Frank Carrol, Linda Fratianne, Victoria etc. I enjoy this experience because it improves me as a skater not only that but they understand how it works. Though I never took from Frank but my sister told me that he told her you can't make someone do the jump, you can help someone but they decide in their mind if they're going to land it. Victoria would tell me the of dynamics of creating a spin and she told me that you don't have to be one of those people with their name on the wall to enjoy skating. She enjoyed spinning a lot but her name didn't appear on the wall. Another coach that I'm so glad I met her is Heather! I so glad because she is very fun, nice to talk to. Also she knows my coach Robyn. She use to take lessons from Robyn, This helps through communication especially because she makes a great effort to be upbeat and cheerful she helps plan our lesson schedule and we like to share humor.
Another Coach was Tiffany Stiegler she was a pair skater with her brother Johnny! She enjoys sharing her passion towards skating. She gave me great tips on how to improve she helped with my posture. Unfortunately I won't be able to take lessons from her for a while because she just recently took off with a new baby.
I'm glad I turned into a skater because I think it's a unique sport and it's very fun. I love the challenges in ice skating and how much effort it takes to become more advanced. Also I like how you can do so much like invent or make famous like what Linda Fratianne did she made up a Fratianne spin.

Facts About Ice Skating!!!!!!!! :)
Ice skating is harder then it looks and when most people see ice skaters they don't think about how much balance, strength, and flexibly it takes. But for most skaters like me I don't think about those things, I mainly focus on how to land a new jump or how to improve a spin. What's even more amazing is the levels of boots and blades which is very important for skaters because as they level up skaters will need thicker boots and more powerful toe picks to carry them into the air this is also one thing people don't realize. This is one of many reasons why ice skating a very interesting sport!
Did you know people believed skates were made out of bones once? Also did you know the jumps we know no as salchow, axel... were named after people invented those jumps. Same goes for spins Sasha Cohen spin and the Fratianne spin (cannon ball spin.) In fact some of these people like Linda Fratianne teach others today.
Today ice skating has vastly changed and improved and should be appreciated because who knows what would have happened? Maybe it could have vanished. As history should be appreciated because of it changes effected us today in away on the way we live. History has invented us!
Now today I enjoy ice skating the way it is. Like most skaters I enjoy jumping and spinning and over all my favorite move is the split jump. As I improved I took that improvement and skated in different rinks mostly for competitions. But today I still currently skate at Toyota a famous rink. Whats even more amazing is remember when I mentioned Linda Fratianne well, when ever I skate at Toyota I take lessons from her! She is great coach and hope to learn her Fratianne spin!
